Employee Onboarding is one of the most important HR functions which involves the proper integration of the new recruits and facilitating their quicker adaptation to the organizational culture as well as their new job role (business.com, n.d.). Effective onboarding process generally provides numerous benefits such as improved retention rate, increased productivity, enhanced job satisfaction, better alignment with ultimate company goals, and also reduced costs (business.com, n.d.). It is a comprehensive process that involves the corporation of management as well as the other employees and could potentially last up to 12 months (SHRM, 2023). Also, a good onboarding process lays a better foundation for long-term success for the organization, improving productivity, building better loyalty and engagement, and helping employees become successful earlier in their careers with the new organization (SHRM, 2023).
Moreover, there are numerous benefits of
proper Employee Onboarding which could be elaborated as follows. The first
benefit is enhanced employee retention as they tend to stay longer in an
organization where they feel welcomed and supported (www.linkedin.com, n.d.).
Effective onboarding could make new recruits feel confident and hence be more
productive. Further, an effective onboarding could set the base for new
recruits’ first impression and new coming experience leading to better job
satisfaction (www.linkedin.com, n.d.).
Proper training and support during an
effective onboarding could be helpful
for the new recruits to feel confident in their role, driving them to be more
productive from the beginning as onboarding helps new recruits to understand
the company's mission, values, and goals, helping them feel more connected and engaged
(www.linkedin.com, n.d.) Also, effective onboarding could lead to the
job satisfaction via a positive newcoming experience (www.linkedin.com, n.d.).
Further, effective onboarding could result
in better aligning and understanding towards company goals. Onboarding generally
helps new employees to understand the company's culture and expectations, vision,
mission, and core values, allowing them to be better aligned with them and perform
accordingly (www.linkedin.com, n.d.). Additionally, from an effective
onboarding process, an organization could reduce certain costs as well. Employee
Turnovers could be expensive, and
effective onboarding could potentially reduce the likelihood of employees
leaving the company shortly after they join (www.linkedin.com, n.d.).
This is due to the support extended at their onboarding for the new employees
to feel confident and competent in their role, reducing the likelihood of
turnover. By investing in effective onboarding, companies could be able to
create engaged employees who could improve the company’s productivity, company
culture, and overall organizational success (ApolloTechnical, 2020).
In conclusion, Effective
onboarding improves retention, increases productivity, enhances job
satisfaction, better aligns employees with company goals, and reduces costs.
